PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS
LEARNING DISABILITY

Learning disabilities are identified through a comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation, which assesses the individual’s overall intellectual ability, cognitive processing abilities (e.g. working memory, processing speed, fluid reasoning, etc.), and academic performance. Common learning disabilities are: dyslexia (reading), dyscalculia (math), and dysgraphia (written language).
Depending on the specific concerns, the evaluation may also include behavioral rating scales completed by the parents, child, and in some cases the child’s teacher. A comprehensive psychoeducational report with recommendations based on your child’s areas of strengths and weakness will be provided to the family, and a follow-up meeting will be scheduled. This evaluation can be completed bilingually (Spanish and English), depending on the language dominance of your child.

AUTISM SPECTRUM

Autism Spectrum Disorder is characterized by difficulties with social communication, restricted interests, repetitive behaviors, and/or atypical responses to sensory input. Clinicians at Let’s Flourish Psychology are certified ADOS-2 evaluators. As such, an autism evaluation may consist of play observations, an interview with parents/caretakers, an interview with the child, behavior rating scales, a standardized test of intellectual ability, and a test of academic skills.
This evaluation can be completed bilingually (Spanish and English), depending on the language dominance of your child. Once the autism evaluation is completed, a comprehensive psychoeducational report with recommendations based on your child’s areas of strengths and weakness will be provided to the family, and a follow-up meeting will be scheduled.

ATTENTION DEFICIT / HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active. There are three types of ADHD: Hyperactive/Impulsive, Inattentive, and Combined Type, which includes both hyperactivity and impulsivity.
An ADHD evaluation may include a parent/caregiver interview, observation, behavior rating scales completed by the individual, parent/caregiver, and teacher (if available). ADHD evaluations can be combined with other types of evaluations or can be conducted in isolation.

At Let’s Flourish Psychology, an ADHD evaluation can also be completed bilingually. Once the evaluation is completed, a comprehensive psychoeducational report with recommendations based on your individual’s areas of strengths and weakness will be provided to the family, and a follow-up meeting will be scheduled.

INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

An Intellectual Disability evaluation is needed when an individual’s intellectual abilities and adaptive skills are significantly below that of their same-age peers. An intellectual disability evaluation consists of
a standardized assessment of intellectual ability, an assessment of academic skills, along with parent/caregiver’s formal interview and rating scales, in order to gather information regarding the individual’s social/developmental history and adaptive functioning.
This evaluation can be completed bilingually (Spanish and English), depending on the individual’s language dominance. Once the evaluation is completed, a comprehensive psychoeducational report with recommendations based on your individual’s areas of strengths and weakness will be provided to the family, and a follow-up meeting
will be scheduled.

GIFTED
Giftedness is often defined as an intellectual ability linked to an IQ score of 130 or over. However, not all gifted children excel in an academic area. Some may display high creative, artistic, musical and/or leadership abilities relative to their peers. Gifted evaluations consist of an individually administered standardized assessment of intellectual ability, which can be completed in a single session.
As with any other evaluation at Let’s Flourish Psychology, a gifted evaluation can be completed bilingually. Once the evaluation is completed, a comprehensive psychoeducational report with recommendations based on your individual’s areas of strengths and weakness will be provided to the family, and a follow-up meeting will be scheduled.
